So youre interested in a website for your business? here is some background and general information for you.

Remember you can have a website without a PC and visitors will be able to get info on what you do and where you are etc. If you have a hotmail or other free email service we can direct email from your domain or site.

HOSTING is the first thing to consider, hosting is where the files for the website live, normally this is charged per year, some places offer free hosting but make sure you are allowed a commercial site with these hosts. Some major stores offer free hosting which is ideal for home users but not really for business users.

A DOMAIN NAME is worth considering, with most free sites you get a domain name which is tagged on the end of the main domain for example www.bigshopname.co.uk/mysitename this works fine but is a bit unprofessional for business use. We can register US (.com) and UK (.co.uk) domains, these can be for sites either hosted by us or hosted elsewhere. Domain names are like personalised car number plates and give a very professional finish to your website. In general Domains have to be registered (rented) on a yearly basis.

Webdesign, this is your actual site and is where most of the hard work comes in. We can offer some real professional sites, the design of a site is best discussed with the client in question. Also, do you want photos, logo's or other nice touches. Java is also available which is a programming language which offers many nice facilities, for example the date and other info displayed on your page. We also have a WAP programming capability, this allows users with the new WAP phones to see a WAP version of your website. Some clients also like to have a text version of the site for PDA users (Psion and Palmtop etc). With our technical documentation background we can create a superb site for you from any source material you have, for example brochures etc. We can scan Logos etc and can also take digital photos if required (distance, time and cost permitting).

EMAIL, this is separate to the website, to receive email you need a PC or some other form of email device. We can add an email account to your website if you have a domain name, or we can even arrange one on our SWINNET or postportal domain name if you dont have your own.

DAILUP Account (POP3), if you dont already have a facility to dial onto the internet we can supply a dialup account, the call rate is local for all uk users and it uses a standard 0845 number. If you want to send email from your domain you will need a dialup account matching your email account (from the same provider). An alternative to an email account is to use one of the free web based email systems, fine for home use but not very professional for business use.
